by Hitchens, Christopher
{mosgoogle} by Hitchens, Christopher Religion, says Hitchens, is wrong on the origin of the cosmos and man, suppresses human nature, promotes violence and submission to authority, and is hostile to free inquiry. He dismisses intelligent design as unreasonable belief in a creator who would, for example, equip man with "junk DNA." He rejoices that there is no supreme being keeping score on our many sins, some of which are unavoidable. Furthermore, he concludes, there is ample proof throughout history that religion does not make for better behavior. Surprisingly, he calls not for an end to religion, but for an application of man?s higher impulses ? reason and art ? to its practice. - reviewed by Jim, Main Library, PLCMC
