{mosgoogle} by Mendleson, Cheryl Anne and Charles Braithwaite are the central characters in this tightly written tale of life in a New York City grand apartment building. Charles is a baritone singer at the Met and Anne has long ago abandoned her music career and settled into cheerful domesticity with her growing family. Set in 1999, the neighborhood is poised for gentrification and rising costs are forcing unwilling New Yorkers to rethink their way of life. It?s Anne who is the touchstone for a circle of friends who include snobbish intellectuals, an Episcopal priest, a struggling scientist, and others. Events of life shape and develop all of Mendleson?s characters, and the end of the book leaves the reader wanting to know more. - reviewed by Cati, Morrison Regional, PLCMC
