by John PerkinsConfessions of an Economic Hitman Book Review

Exposing the fraud of one's own career must be very confronting for anyone. Not only does John Perkins expose his own experience as an "economic hitman" spanning three decades, he exposes the underlying fraud perpetrated by the global and specifically the US corporatocracy in its pursuit of financial enslavement of third world countries. This book is a personal account of the dark nature of globalism and global empire, the corrupt machine of global finance and third world development.

The development of third world countries, John realises, does not raise the people of those countries out of poverty as promised by US corporations.  Most US sponsored "development projects" simply create the infrastructure to enable better access for corporations to resources for exploitation. Rather than improve living standards, governments are forced into taking massive unpayable loans from the IMF and world bank etc. that are paid back through taxes for generations to come. If a head of state won't play ball, the jackals are sent in to wreak their havoc. If this fails to sway the stubborn leader, the marines can be sent in to ensure compliance.

Each country that John was sent to is a case study of evolution of the US global empire and its methods of controlling more and more of the world's wealth and resources. In the late chapters John provides an analysis of the real agenda behind the US invasion of Iraq, judging that the corporatocracy has returned to less sophisticated forms of imperialism in the past decade.

As I read John Perkin's accounts, he admits to living in some kind of double think state of mind. He was indoctrinated into the ruling class group thinkand stayed with them for a very long time. He grew wealthy from his exploits and money was the thing generally closest to his mind. Still, he apparently has continuous pangs of concience that finally culminate in his taking a more positive path and a resolution to share the truth of the real nature of our globalised economy, run by a cynical and ruthless corporatocray.
