On Christmas Eve, after 15 years as street level booksellers in Melbourne's west, Curiosity Bookshop closed it's doors. Rising rents, economic circumstances, & changing patterns of custom have conspired to make this type of bookselling unviable, so we go off to join those other great generalist bookshops in that elephant's graveyard of bookstores - the internet.
However, it's not all doom & gloom. On the positive side we have thousands of rare, unusual, interesting, & otherwise collectable books that we might finally get around to listing, [&] for our record customers, the rare vynil site is due for launch in February. For those who need a browsing bookstore, the nearest to Spotswood would be... http://www.westsidestories.com.au/ -Westona: second hand books
http://www.willysbazaar.com.au/index.asp
- Williamstown: books, records, CDs, & collectables
http://www.essendoncdlpbook.com.au/ - Essendon: for books, records & CDs
We would like to extend our thanks to all our customers and the local community for their support over the years, first at Newport, and for the last six years, here in Spotswood.
It's been fun! Dan

Curiosity Bookshop 1994 - 2009 Sad but true.. After more than 15 years as street-level booksellers in Melbourne's west, Curiosity Bookshop is to close it's doors permanently & join the ghosts of other great book shops, in that bookstore graveyard known as 'the internet'. Rising rents in combination with the current economic circumstances, have conspired to make what was already a marginal business at best, a loss. So we too will soon be an 'online only' entity. We will be having a stock reduction sale before we close the doors later this year - stay tuned for details We would like to thank all of our loyal customers, & members of the local community who have shown great support to us over the years, first at Newport, & for the last six years, here in Spotswood. Thank You & good night

Spoken Stick will take place at the Curiosity Bookshop on Thursday the 16th of April. The spoken word and song night will showcase a number of emerging talents of the spoken word and song variety.
Kyle Ligetwood hails from the far flung stretches of Western Australia and will be performing new original poetic material of exquisite detail and form. She has previously performed at the Poetry Slam Competitions at the St Kilda library. Cate de Carteret is a musician and will be performing songs of the vulgar and sublime. She studies music at NMIT and has performed at a number of spaces including the Bender Bar Thornbury and various incarnation with Roarhouse, a non-for-profit performance association. You can also wire her up on her myspace site: www.myspace.com/152691414 Julian Lowndes will be performing the poetic alongside Frank Gehrke who will be supporting on guitar with truly atmospheric and jazz inspired improvisations. Hope to see you there next Thursday! |
