Spoken Stick will take place at the Curiosity Bookshop on Thursday the 16th of April. The spoken word and song night will showcase a number of emerging talents of the spoken word and song variety.

Kyle Ligetwood hails from the far flung stretches of Western Australia and will be performing new original poetic material of exquisite detail and form. She has previously performed at the Poetry Slam Competitions at the St Kilda library.

Cate de Carteret is a musician and will be performing songs of the vulgar and sublime. She studies music at NMIT and has performed at a number of spaces including the Bender Bar Thornbury and various incarnation with Roarhouse, a non-for-profit performance association. Julian Lowndes will be performing the poetic alongside Frank Gehrke who will be supporting on guitar with truly atmospheric and jazz inspired improvisations.

ACP Magazines Chief Executive Officer, Scott Lorson, today announced that weekly news and current affairs title The Bulletin with Newsweek would cease publication from the current issue of the magazine which went on sale on 23 January 2008.

The Bulletin is Australia’s longest running magazine and was launched in 1880.

Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones (Text/Penguin NZ) has topped New Zealand's bestseller charts for the year, with over 46,000 copies sold in NZ.

The finalists in the 2008 Aurealis Awards, which recognise the best Australian works in the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror, have been announced.
