Australian journalist and broadcaster John Hinde decided some years ago to break away from television and make a new life. He is now the Australian Broadcasting Commission's film critic on both the national radio networks. He says his real interests are not in the stars, the glitter and the razzamatazz but in the cinema itself as an influence so powerful that its realities are still only partly understood. Other People's Pictures began as a radio series in 1979 after a world tour, and has been brought up to date and expanded in this book.
